At Boomy, our creative tools — like automatic song and artist name generation, and cover art generation — are designed to make it simple to make your first release, but can sometimes cause problems with delivery to streaming services and stores. In order to ensure all Boomy releases are delivered smoothly, our review team flags some releases as “Generic.”

If your release has been flagged as Generic, it will likely be delayed or not approved by streaming services and stores.

How To Avoid A “Generic” Flag

Thankfully, it is simple to edit your release to remove the “Generic” flag. We’ve outlined a few helpful suggestions below to ensure timely delivery of your release to streaming services and stores.

1. Avoid the use of automatically-generated names

Be creative! While our auto-naming feature is useful for organizing songs in your Boomy Library, auto-generated song names, artist names, and release titles should usually not be included in releases submitted to stores and streaming services.

Instead, name your release and songs around a theme, purpose, or unifying idea. Look for inspiration in your life — your hometown, favorite games, current emotions, or popular phrases.

For your artist name, consider using your name or a name of something meaningful to you. Before submitting your release, it’s a good idea to search Spotify or Apple Music for your artist name to see if another artist is already using your preferred name. Submitting an artist name that is identical to an existing artist can create confusion on streaming services.

2. Design your own album art

While Boomy’s album art generator can produce great results, repeated submissions of AI-generated art can cause delivery problems.

Instead, design your own album art, ideally with the name of your album and artist in the art itself. Simple tools like Canva and PlaceIt allow for easy creation of custom album artwork. In Canva, simply search for the “Artistic CD Cover” preset. In PlaceIt, navigate to “Musician Templates.”

Make sure your cover art does not include any text other than your album and artist name, and avoid the use of brand logos. Be sure to export your artwork in a 3000x3000px resolution, since this is the minimum accepted by stores.

3. Consider adding vocals or auto-vocals to your songs

Songs with vocals are approved quickly, and with Boomy’s auto-vocal feature, you don’t even need to know how to sing!

Simply tap “Add Vocal” in the Boomy editor, select “Auto-Vocal,” and speak any phrase or upload a recording of your voice, and Boomy’s AI will write and record an original vocal line to your instrumental. Whatever you say will also make a great song and release title!
