During a tumultuous 2020, we’ve been hard at work delivering boomy’s biggest update yet — and I’m thrilled to finally share it with you.
We’ve improved nearly every aspect of boomy and added ton of new features. I’ll expand on some of these below, but you should probably just try it for yourself:

🦠Expanded free tier due to COVID-19
Covid-19 has changed our world, at least for the time being. All year, we’ve been hearing powerful stories from boomy users that we never expected. Some, newly out of work, started relying on income from their boomy releases just to pay their bills. Others dove in to boomy like never before with new downtime, spending weeks creating songs and releases as a way to escape the harsh realities of a challenging year.
We don’t want our subscription price to prevent anyone from expressing themselves with music, or from earning release income that may help them through a tough financial situation. So first and foremost, we’ve vastly expanded what you can do on boomy’s free tier — starting today, all features related to music creation on boomy are free, and free accounts can earn revenue from up to 5 releases, no upgrades required.
Everyone has a part to play in solving the pandemic. At the very least, we’re curing stay-at-home boredom. At most, we’re a lifeline for some users who are now earning a living based in part on the music they’re creating with boomy. We take this responsibility seriously.
📱 All-new design
We worked with some of the best designers in the business to overhaul boomy’s creation interface from the ground up. We’ve unified creating and editing songs into one mobile-first experience, giving you more control and more serendipity when creating and personalizing your instant songs.
Creating releases is also easier than ever — in just a few taps, you’ll be live on 40+ streaming services including Spotify, TikTok, Apple Music, and YouTube and reach 2B+ people with your music.
We update your stream counts every day, so be sure to check back frequently to see how your releases are performing. We deposit revenue earned from your releases every month into your account, which you can withdraw via PayPal at any time.
🔊 Best-in-class instant mixing & sound design
Songs you make with boomy have never sounded better, thanks to a ground-up rewrite of our audio production process. Now, when you make songs with boomy, you’ll hear advanced production techniques formerly reserved for professionals — from advanced compression and EQ, to thousands of new homegrown sounds, handcrafted reverb, delay, and other novel effects you won’t hear anywhere else.
Incredibly, this new system produces full-length songs with these new advanced production techniques without sacrificing generation time. Depending on the style, boomy songs generate in as fast as 10 seconds, so you can cycle through options and find your sound faster than ever.
These advanced new production techniques are applied to everything you make on boomy, but if you want to dig in, try a few mixing styles in boomy’s new Custom style (formerly called “Advanced”). Personally, I’m a big fan of the Lo-Fi option, which adds a creative vinyl warmth to everything you produce with it.
🎙️ Use your voice — even if you can’t sing
We’ve finally added vocals to boomy! If you can rap or sing, use the new “Custom Vocal” mode to layer your vocal line on any track you’ve generated, right from your device or external microphone.
If you want use your home or professional studio instead, simply produce your vocal line outside of boomy and upload it as a WAV file to add it to your song.
If you’re totally tone-deaf, don’t worry — we’ve added an experimental new “Auto-Vocal” feature that takes any spoken or non-pitched audio you provide and uses it to chop, tune, and layer the audio as an improvised vocal line in your song.
Just like boomy’s instrumental generation, the underlying vocal arrangement algorithms can have interesting and unexpected results, and you can reject the vocal line until you’re satisfied. Beta testers had a ton of fun using audio clips of their kids’ favorite quips, awkward voicemails, and clips from politicians to make genre-defying music memes. We’re super excited (and a little scared) to hear what you do with this!

With this release, we’ve added new ways to share, explore, and stream songs right from boomy’s homepage. Add any hashtag you’d like to songs you create, and they’ll show up on dedicated tag pages — like this one dedicated to the 2020 presidential election: https://boomy.com/tag/2020election
There’s a lot more to come on this front, so be sure to add relevant tags to your songs. If you feel like just listening casually, you can search for any boomy song, organize songs with hashtags, and listen to featured songs hand-selected by the boomy team.
